HTC Hero Android 2.1 ROM update now available courtesy of Droid Eris leak – officially coming soon?
At long last, Android 2.1 is now available for the HTC Hero. Unfortunately, this isn’t an official update but via a leaked Droid Eris ROM but it seems to be the real deal and, as the Droid Eris is basically an HTC Hero by another name, the Android 2.1 ROM update has been made available for the HTC Hero. One thing: it’s FAST baby!
The Android 2.1 ROM update was leaked on XDA Developers (where else!) and users flashing it onto the mobiles are reporting good success.
So why would you want to add this update on your HTC Hero? Well, user nprussell has uploaded the VillainROM 3.0 based on the Eris 2.1 leak with the following features:
- Apps2SD (not tested)
- HUGE APN list
- Loads of languages added (including German)
- Busybox
- JBED
- Root
- Push working perfectly
- 3D Gallery with MULTITOUCH
- Google NAVIGATION working worldwide – as standard.
- Oh, and MAPS has working MULTITOUCH
- HTC Desire Wallpaper & Lockscreen
- HTC Legend Bootscreen (white) – Nexus boot will be made available via update.zip later
- Low Memory Killer tweaks applied
- FIXED Flickr integration and slight widget issues
- aNETSHARE Wifi Tether
- Genie Widget
- Some further tweaks I won’t share just yet!
I believe this is a custom ROM so it may not be the vanilla 2.1 update found on the Eris. To install it yourself remember to back up your system and then head on over to the XDA Developers Forum to download the ROM and get further instructions – let us know how you get on.
For users who haven’t got a clue about flashing or are simply too scared – hold on. If there is a leak then the launch can’t be too long, I think a couple of weeks should be enough time. Keep it locked on WNM and we’ll update you… soon (I hope).
